This started life as an exercise in teaching myself how to play a hundred year-old banjolele - a somewhat obscure instrument invented to capitalize on the Hawaiian dance craze in big bands, pre-amplification. The delicate melody played on a loud, dirty, barely intonated instrument evoked images of the ethereal, terrifying beauty of a mushroom cloud (the mind works in mysterious ways).
